Julie and Julia

Image
Last night I watched the movie "Julie and Julia", and although I am not a fan of Julia Child or French cooking, I must say that I really enjoyed this movie and all the feel good qualities it possesses. So interesting, the true life story of Julia Child , an American living in Paris, who takes her boredom, and desire to bring French cooking to the American house wife. She shows a true spirit of being who you can be, doing what you love, persistence, and entrepreneurship. Two things that she possessed which spoke to me, was her desire to never give up, and a deeply loving and supporting husband. I also could relate to Julie Powell , a struggling writer, searching to find herself, who discovers to joy of cooking, blogging, and again, doing what you love and never giving up. If you are an entrepreneur, a writer feeling stuck, a blogger, love to cook, love to eat, or just love life, than I highly recommend viewing this movie. Enjoy! National Irish American Heritage Month

Image
March is National Irish American Heritage Month. Not known as a traditional holiday so to speak, but is recognized and celebrated on St. Patrick's Day (March 17th). Not only is this day celebrated by those who are Irish, but also celebrated by many who partake in drinking green beer , eating corned beef and cabbage , and wearing something green on that particular day. Many parades are also held on this day. The New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade was first started in 1962, which included marching Irish soldiers who were serving in the English military at the time. I am doubled blessed; to be Irish and having March 17th as my birthday. A quick history of St. Patrick St. Patrick was a devout Christian who it is believed that God spoke to in his dreams. He was ordained as a priest, was a missionary of Ireland, and credited with helping convert the Irish people to Christianity. He was known for creating the Celtic cross , which has a sun superimposed over the cross. The sun bein...

I hate driving

Image
But I love my car! It's everybody else that gets in my way! How I long for the open road, freedom to drive! Welcome to Florida. I can't say enough about the bad drivers in Florida. If it's not the elderly who shouldn't be allowed to drive after a certain age; say after the cognitive functions are gone or questionable, it's all the young people, racing around not following traffic rules and regulations and on their cell phones--- all the time! I once had an 82 year old man run a stop sign and smash into my car. The police report read, "violator appeared confused, due to age". Well, hello? maybe he should not be allowed to drive then! I think that the "driving privilege " should be reviewed and respected. How about this: Everyone over the age of 65 should be required to retake the written and driving tests at their local DMV every year in order to qualify for a driver's license. This would keep some dangerous drivers off the roads. Yes, but th...

Sunday: Not as exciting as I thought

Image
That kinda sums it up. I thought I would have some exciting news, well I do have one thing... but I'll hold off for a bit.... I thought I would have another new bracelet complete to show you, but did not happen. What did I do today? Loads and loads of laundry! And spent some time "studying" my new camera's instruction manual. 50 pages, and now I have to download the CD disc to learn more! Did I mention I'm electronically challenged? Now let me get to the good stuff: IT'S TIME FOR A GIVEAWAY! Since I have been blessed with good things lately, I'd like to offer this bracelet, as a giveaway. It's one of my pure copper cuff style bracelets from the "Ancient World's" series. This one just does not live up to my standards for sale, although it is very nice and wearable. It will fit a size 7 inch wrist. O.K. So what do you have to do to be entered? ~follow my blog~ 1 entry ~become a Facebook fan, click on top box to go there~ 1 entry ~make a pur...

Just my typical Saturday

Image
Get up, take care of the cats, exercise (yes, and not my usual!), go meet my women friends, go to the library, go shopping; yes, I actually got to treat myself to some new clothes and a purse, great sales today! Then grocery shop, (my least favorite thing to do) ,came home made these earrings, which are available here . They are a slightly smaller size than my usual, measuring 1 inch around. Then I created this fabulous southwestern style slider bracelet: which will probably be in my Etsy shop tomorrow. And no, I still haven't used my new camera yet. That will be coming soon. My day started out rainy and cold, a lot colder than we are used to here in Florida! Stop back tomorrow for some exciting stuff!

A day to rest

What busy weekend I had. First of all I did have to work this weekend. We had a diabetic cat who needed treatments. In addition to that and my usual Saturday morning gathering, I did a last minute open house with my friend Carol. You may have heard me talk about her before. She does seed bead weaving, a totally different style of jewelry than I make. BTW: I convinced her to open and Etsy shop and you can check it out here . She needs to add more though, and the photos do nothing to really show or appreciate the work that she does! The open house went well and was well attended. Oh, we had it at Carol's house which is about 30 minutes north of me. We kept it simple; just coffee, punch, chips and dips, cheese and crackers, and I made brownies with chocolate chunks. I sold a couple of big necklaces (so glad) so now I can pay some bill that needs paying! Then running back to work to care for the cat. A lot of driving! So today, being off from work, I just cleaned up and put away my jew...

"Where is God?" a book review

Image
This question is a popular one in our society today. In his book, Dr. John Townsend attempts to answer this question for those who may be seeking. The highlights for me were these: God has given us free will. He loves us and wants to be a part of our lives. He wants us to connect with others. We must have faith at all times; relying on and trusting God. Now these are not new ideas for me, and maybe for you also. I found Dr. Townsend’s writing style to be geared towards the psychological evaluation of life’s circumstance to be distracting. I found it too detailed a reading to hold my interest. Too many chapters were focused on what not to look for in God. Now if I picked up this book with it’s title, “Where is God”, I think I would be sincerely searching for an answer in these tough times. I would not want to page through a theological textbook, which is how I felt about this book. It did not get interesting to me until about page 100, with the sub-topic of “How it works”. Dr...
