What's in the studio this week?

Image
I've been restocking earrings that have either sold or went to galleries to be sold. These earrings (above) are a collection of stud earrings that I carry right now on a regular basis. You can find them for sale on my website here . They are available for retail and wholesale. Please contact me for wholesale information and pricing, at info@DevineDesignsJewelry.com. These are a new design. Somewhat like my square stud earrings, but with a long squiggle of sterling silver that have ceramic beads that dangle from the bottom of the squiggles. Makes a nice accent and added color to the earring. These earrings I was asked to remake. I had made the 3 disc earring and sent them to a gallery, but had a request to make the longer 5 disc earrings. I have done these before. I just altered the design a bit. Free- floating, so light weight, you would not believe. They are available now for purchase. Please contact if you wish to purchase and I will send you all the information. ...

The do's and don'ts of how to approach a retail store or gallery with your work

Image
It goes without saying that you should be prepared, of course! These are just a few tips that I have found from my own experience working with retail shops and galleries. DO your homework. Go on-line, visit the store is person, sort of do your detective work first to get a feel what the shop is like and if your work would be a good fit for the shop or gallery. DO get a name. Of the shop owner, gallery curator or manager. Find out who you need to contact. DON'T expect to just walk in without an appointment and get to be seen or to show your work. You won't get anywhere this way. Most galleries will want you to make an appointment to show your work, and that is, if they like what you make. Which brings me to my next point; DO have a line sheet or catalog with you on your first visit. This way you can drop it off, and leave it for the shop owner or gallery director to view at his/her convenience. DO follow up with a phone call or email. I found that most gallery c...

Happy Friday!

Image
It's a lite post for today. This morning I had my appointment at the Florida Craftsmen . They were quite pleased with the selections I brought in for the gallery. I took myself out to a nice lunch of Thai food. Yum! Made a quick shopping run. Then came home and finished a few more new pieces of jewelry. The humidity was down today, making it a little more bearable outside. Overall, a good day! How was your Friday?

Sneak peak and other things

I'm creating things like a mad woman trying to get ready for fall arts and crafts shows- some of which I am not sure yet that I have gotten into. Besides that, and working many hours at my "day job", I'm getting new items ready to take locally to shops and galleries. I have 3 appointments coming up in the next couple of weeks, and a four that is tentative. So, here's a look at some more new bracelets I've created using fold forming techniques. I'm having much fun with these, although with the heat here in Florida, it is quite hot making these bracelets that use alot of torch time and muscle. Enjoy browsing! I tried some other backgrounds, and just by chance; love the way these photos came out. More new stuff to follow!

Keeping it real

Since I like to write this like a journal on my jewelry making journey, I figured I would share my experience for today. As I mentioned in a previous post about exploring more local shops and galleries to sell my jewelry in, I did apply to 2 galleries which are juried ie: you must be voted in by board members. So when I got home from work today, in a rainy down pour; checking the mail box....I see my own hand writing on a big envelope which lets me know that I've gotten notice, (and my photos) back from one of the galleries. This was the BIG one that I really hoped to get into. Now, what I always do, is go to a gallery or shop first to check it out. See what types of items they carry, jewelry, etc. And I check over the shop as well, to see what type of feel or appeal that it has. I never blindly just ask a shop to carry my work or apply without checking it out first! And if I feel like my work will fit in at a perspective location, then I make a move. Moving right along to the punc...

So much to explore

Image
It's early in the morning here;sometimes I find that my mind is pretty clear with thoughts, so I wanted to share about my journey briefly before heading off for the day. I am making my way around the gulf coast of Florida. My quest to find sops and galleries to house my jewelry designs had led me to discover many more options that I had originally thought existed. Last week's trip yielded progress. I've acquired another shop to carry my jewelry; (yeah!) and have a couple of "juried" galleries that I'm submitting photos and bios to. Off to the post office today. I'm thinking of joining a couple of professional organizations ie: craft organizations/artist's groups. I think it would serve me well to learn more about marketing and being a handmade jewelry artisan, as well as getting involved with a like minded group of people to share ideas with and to have support. A mentor perhaps? Just my thoughts for this morning. Now I'm off to make a weekly pay ...

Against my (better) judgement;Desperate times; What am I doing?

Image
This blog post may sound all over the place, as my thoughts are too. First of all, on the advice of my husband, I took the plunge and opened an EBAY store. I know, I know, many others have advised against this. Their fees are too high, the site is slow to download, etc, etc. But, they do have a high number of dedicated customers. And so, in these desperate times, I'll give it a try! Here's a few things that you'll find over there: Last week I didn't make much new, due to the fact that I did work a temporary job at Edible Arrangements.com. It was very busy and tiring, since it was Valentine week. Well, at least I brought in a paycheck for the week! My quest continues, as I look for a part/full time job, even if I do have to go back into veterinary medicine. I do need to make some earrings as requested by one of the galleries that I have some things in right now. And, on the other hand, I'm having problems with another shop that I have jewelry in, and may pull my stuf...
