First show of the season; a bust

Image
I think from now on, I should only apply to juried, fine art shows. I must have said this to myself a dozen or so times last night. I did a show sponsored by a local chamber of commerce. It was not an inexpensive show either. It was a "girl's night out" plus weekend on the beach for the guests. I thought it would be a good opportunity, as it was advertised well, and I expected it to be only one type of each vendor, plus it sounded like it was a bit upscale. A good place to sell my hand crafted jewelry, I thought. It did not turn out that way. This was not the right venue for my artisan jewelry, and I don't think they had 30 people throught the door. Quite a disappointment to all. I thought about titling this post as, "The most expensive meal I've ever had", since they had a free pasta station, so I got to eat a small plate of bow ties and a piece of cake. I will not do this again. Live and learn. ******************** Here's a couple of ne...

This never happens

I happened to walk in and find these 2 cats sharing a sleep space. The orange one, (Jinjaa) hates the grey one, (Achilles). He always chases her around and beats her up. So I was quite surprised to find them sleeping together. Luckily, I had time to run and get the camera to take these shots.

The easiest spice cake recipe

Image
For this team blog carnival ( Etsy Blogger's ), Rose of Random Creative asks, "What is your favorite fall recipe?" So many come to mind. I love making homemade soups, and cooking in the crock pot. But, today, I thought I'd share the easiest recipe for spice cake that I know of. I might have gotten this recipe from Weight Watcher's , but I'm not sure. First, you will need a box of spice cake mix. And a can of pumpkin. And that's it! Mix the 2 together; it will be a thick batter. Then bake according to the box directions. You will get the most moist, succulent spice cake! Of course you can always add your favorite icing if you wish. I found this video about pumpkins; it's a little long, but fun! Enjoy!

Facts about Labor Day you may not have known

Labor Day Parade, Union Square, New York, 1882 ~Labor Day was originally dedicated to pay tribute to the American worker. ~Labor Day was first thought to be the suggestion of Peter J. McGuire, secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor; although many contribute this idea to Matthew Maguire, a machinist, while serving in the Central Labor Union of New York, in 1882. ~Oregon was the first state to make it a holiday in 1887. ~President Grover Cleveland signed the bill into law in 1894, declaring Labor Day to be held on the first Monday in September. ~Labor riots between striking railway workers and local authorities helped to rush this into law. ~Labor Day is also observed in Canada.

Happy Friday!

Image
It's a lite post for today. This morning I had my appointment at the Florida Craftsmen . They were quite pleased with the selections I brought in for the gallery. I took myself out to a nice lunch of Thai food. Yum! Made a quick shopping run. Then came home and finished a few more new pieces of jewelry. The humidity was down today, making it a little more bearable outside. Overall, a good day! How was your Friday?

Surprised By Oxford~ A memoir by Carolyn Weber

Image
As a student at Oxford University, the author writes a diary of sorts, about her time, studies, living in England, folks and friends and most of all her conversion to Christianity. The authors shares with us, the readers, interesting conversations with friends, quaint times in the pubs, and holiday traditions, and English traditions also. We get an inside look at the author’s feelings about men, and religion from visions of her childhood and upbringing. She asks many questions about God and faith; and most conversations are with a Christian male friend, who interestingly becomes a major character in this book. I must admit, that this is a rather long book. I was weary that I would be able to complete 440 pages of the reading. Written with much literary prose, you can tell right away that the author studied literature as her major, and became a professor of literature as well. There is much use of excerpts from literary masters. I found the writing to be structured much lik...
