What I've learned so far

Image
I had a good show last weekend and so with my inventory low, I must now produce, produce and produce! In preparation for another show in 2 weeks; I'll be showing at the Safety Harbor, 3rd Friday Music series on April 15th. This is an evening venue-and I'm a little worried as I have no one to help me set up. I'm not sure I can put up my tent by myself. (This will be a learning experience for sure!) Here's my reflections about what I've learned so far, recently from doing shows and selling my jewelry. You can't sit back and wait for something to happen. You must be active, aggressive, and assertive and do what it takes to sell your goods. Especially these days, in this economy, you just can't expect your items to sell themselves no matter how good your product is. And if you make jewelry, or consider yourself a designer, realize that on-line venues as well as live arts and crafts shows and fairs are over-saturated with people who make jewelry. So there's c...

Etsy Blogger's blog carnival for March

Image
I'm hosting this month's blog carnival for the wonderful group I belong to: Etsy Blogger's . Here's the choices I picked for topics. 1. April birthstone: diamond- write about it's history, gem info, whether or not you like them, or if this is your birthstone! 2. April Fool's Day: Do you participate? Tell us about a joke you played on someone, or if one has been played on you. What do you think about this "day"? 3. What is your favorite gemstone and why? I've picked number 3. My favorite gemstone is tourmaline. Watermelon is number one, green tourmaline comes in second. watermelon tourmaline green tourmaline Tourmaline is a mineral in the aluminum silicate family. They are said to have great electric and magnetic properties. You may have seen tourmaline listed as an ingredient to cosmetics and beauty products . They are listed as semi-precious gemstones and are found is a variety of colors: green, pink, red, blue, brown, and black. On the Mohs scale...

Getting ready

Image
I've been feverishly getting ready for a show and fund raiser for tomorrow(Saturday). Also, took a great workshop 2 weekends ago. Maybe I'm repeating myself? I don't know. Anyway, just a few new creations to post here, and more will follow. It's sort of an industrial/steampunk style of jewelry. I'll be using mixed metals and rivets. That's it for today. I'll be back later this weekend with an edition of Etsy Blogger's Team carnival. Stop back~

"Wherever you go there you are"~ book review

A wonderful guide to meditation for the beginner, as well as the "experienced". In this 10th anniversary edition of his book, Jon Kabat-Zinn explains in his insightful way, how mindfulness in everyday life can lead to greater peace, joy, and happiness in each and everyone who is willing to practice. Meditation does not mean burning candles and incense; chanting or even making a "great connection with a higher power". It is much more simple than that;as the author makes clear in his in depth look at slowing down, finding time to "go within", being aware of your own breath and your surroundings. His writing style reminds me of Thich Nhat Hanh , a Zen Buddhist monk. With saying that, I must clarify that this book is not recommending becoming a Buddhist, or any direct correlation with any religious sect. It does however, recommend slowing down in this life's hectic pace, going within, finding oneself, and experiencing life, in full consciousness. This is n...

New items and apologies

Image
I must first start off with an apology. I do not have many of the new items that I mentioned in a previous post. Some of them were not even photographed! Which I should have done, just to have a memory of what I made. But, being as busy as I am, I had to go to the local gallery, to take a bracelet that was requested I make, so I of course took my new works in for them to view. The gallery took almost all my new stuff! Which is good, really for me and for locals, here is Florida, because my jewelry does sell faster when seen in person. So if you want to see more of my work and are in the gulf coast of Florida, stop by Clay and Paper gallery . They have beautiful pottery, paintings, whimsical decorations and lots more eye candy! Well, here's what new in my Etsy shop, just listed today. Green meteor earrings ANKLET- sterling silver- pink- rhodochrosite gemstone Sterling silver dog pin- abstract That's it! Have a good Sunday evening!
