"Making a living without a job"~a book review

Image
In her book, Barbara J. Winter writes about "winning ways for creating work that you love", how to be your own boss, and explore your entrepreneurial dreams and ideas. I found this book a timely read even though it's original printing was in 1993. Especially in this economical struggle for many, the author shares not only her own experiences with entrepreneurial business ventures;but other's who have gone on their way to being their own bosses. She writes, "Big businesses have lost their cachet, as well as the belief that they were the foundation of our society's economic health." I would recommend this book to anyone who is any field, already a small business owner, whether beginner or seasoned, and also to anyone who may find themselves out of work, downsized, or just plain unhappy working for someone else. This book if filled with ideas on how to brainstorm, marketing, creating "multiple profit centers", finding your passion, doing your home...

Look what I got for Christmas

Image
NEW TOOLS! I love getting and using new jewelry making tools! Benn got these for me, (with help from a list from "Santa"). I got a new texturizing hammer. Just love those hammers! Very therapeutic. An some new stamping tools. And a great new pair of Lindstrom pliers . Wow, you can really feel the difference when using an expensive tool over a cheap one. I am so glad that I finally got these. An assortment of metal beads. These are going to look great in some new designs. I really like the assortment of colors: pure copper, nickel, dark copper, gunmetal, just to name a few. Surprisingly, these are not cheap. A good assortment of colors and sizes can be found at Fusion Beads . And finally, A new bathroom! Yeah! I am so glad that project is finally complete and I can have my bathroom back! In other things, today I just listed a new pair of earrings called, "Dark Lady" and will be adding a few new things this week. BTW: I'm offering THRU JAN. 1ST, TAKE 25 % OFF ORDE...

Home shows: my last show of 2009

Image
It's been a mad dash to get everything together for my last show of the year, which was this past Thursday, early evening. This is the second year I've done a holiday open house. Now the funny thing, well, not so funny is that I had a pipe leaking behind a wall in my bathroom and had to call in a plumber that morning, just to find out that the walls had to come down and there is dry wall damage. What fun! And what timing! Just lovely, isn't it? Anyway....THE SHOW: It was a very low turnout. I did make a little money which is good and helps out, but not as good as last year's. I contribute this to 2 things: One, the economy. People are not spending as much this year. And 2, I don't think I talked about it or invited quests early enough for them to plan ahead. I think last year I started talking about it a month prior, and this year, I waited until about a week and a half to invite. Oh well, lesson learned. A home show IS a great way to sell; make money; have friends ...
