A Year of Subscription Boxes

Image
Last year I went on a journey trying out many subscription services that offered beauty products and samples, hair care, nail products, and food items. So I decided to write a post that briefly describes the boxes I tried, my opinions of them, why I quit them, and my overall conclusions. So many boxes, so little money! I think the first 3 subscription boxes I tried were Ipsy, Birchbox, and Julep. Ipsy : $10.00/month: seemed geered towards younger girls interested in trying out make-up. I quickly did not like the types of make-up I was getting. Birchbox (similar to Ipsy); getting you about 5 sample size products for $10.00/month, but with much better choices; which included skin care items. Julep : $24.99/month gets you 3 full size nail polish or related products. The brand is much about hype; some pretty polishes, not everyone likes them though. I got hooked on this one for a while, stocking up on different colored polishes. Glossybox :$21.00/month: seemed more upscale, offer...

Quick tip for re-purposing candle lids

Image
Do you like candles? Do you have a lot of them? If you're like me you do, and if like me you hate to waste anything- re-purpose! If you're a beader or jewelry maker, here's a tip for you. I save the lids and use them as project pans. I keep my separate projects that I'm working on in each lid. They keep those tiny parts together. You can even stack your projects together to save space. Let me know if you have tried this or any other quick tip you might want to share!

New eye cream from Valentia

Image
From Valentia: True Glow Eye Cream I received a bottle of this product compliments of Valentia in exchange for my honest review of the product. The True Glow Eye Cream is an "intense corrective eye treatment" that claims to: *reduce wrinkles *hydrate the skin *tighten the eye area *brighten dark circles *restore radiance The featured ingredients to support their claims are: Astanxanthin (an antioxidant) that is said to increase moisture levels and smooth fine lines and wrinkles; Resistem (plant stem cells)that repair and protect the skin from aging; Vitamin C- to help with brightening; Organic rose hip oil-another for hydration; and Amica-an anti-inflammatory agent. Plus many other nourishing ingredients. The list is quite long on the packaging. That is if you can read the packaging. My complaint with it's packaging is that most of it is in such fine print, it is difficult to read. The product com...

Rest Assured~ A book Review

Image
A Recovery Plan for Weary Souls, by Vicki Courtney A book written for all those who are too busy taking care of everything, and everybody else. This two part guide identifies the problem with busyness and explains what is really important and how to find true rest and solitude. This guide is written for the Christian reader, as one will discover throughout the many biblical references mentioned in the reading. Of course, the reader would know this as the author states in chapter 5 to “prioritize your time and the number one thing we need is time with God”. More of the recovery in part 2 of the book guides the reader through chapters such as: Time for Solitude, Time for Leisure, and Time for Others. There is a bonus chapter, much like a 30 day reader, in which are daily prayers and passages from the Bible to reflect upon for that day. A second bonus gives a list of 100 ways to take a rest. There are some great, and simple suggestions here. I really enjoyed this book. It is no...

When to delete, read, or save those emails

Image
As I sit this weekend trying to go through some 9 pages of unread emails, I finally can ask myself, "when do I delete, read, or move to a saved folder?" Do you find yourself doing this? Of course I check my email on a daily basis, and answer anything that is urgent, ie: an order or question from my Etsy shop , family email, or some bill that needs my immediate attention. But then, I find myself wasting time opening emails from retail shops and stores promoting the "last chance" or "best ever" sales claim. I get lured in. Then sometimes go browsing. How much time do you spend (or waste) browsing like this? The other types of email I have filling up my inbox is from subscriptions or newsletters, which at the time, seemed to have value, or I wouldn't have signed up for them. These are the emails that tend to get lost, unopened, and fill up my inbox. So, what do I do? It may seem simple, but here it is. Daily, read what's urgent, answer, a...

Sandcastle Kings~ Meeting Jesus in a Spiritually Bankrupt World by Rich Wilkerson, Jr.~ Book Review

Image
Sandcastle Kings talks about the 4 stories in the Bible in Luke Chapter 7. Preacher Rich Wilkerson, Jr. leads the reader through each story with its lesson on being spiritually bankrupt, finding Jesus and accepting the Grace that He has died to give us. The author deeply examines each story in his own words and explanations; some of which may appeal to a younger audience. Wilkerson does try to tie in his own personal experience throughout the book with the Biblical stories and principals as they are written in the Bible. My overall opinion of this book: It was a bit repetitive, a little boring and maybe better left for a younger generation to discover. The author’s wording/use of (slang) I can’t find a better word for it- didn’t hit home with me or fill my spirit or soul. Honestly, I couldn’t wait to finish reading it, just to get through it. Better recommended for a younger 20’s something Christian reader. I received this book complimentary from BookLook Bloggers in exchange...
