Steal like an Artist~ a book review

Image
I saw a post about this book awhile back on somebody's blog-I don't remember where, and I was intrigued by the title. So, it went on my reading list. A little book by author, Austin Kleon, which states; :10 things nobody told you about being creative". Nothing is original; everything comes from something, the book lightly states, and includes thought provoking ideas and statements for artists, creators, and writers, amoung others. The author shares some topics such as: using your hands, do good work and share it, and be nice- to name a few. A few of my favorite quotes that I found in the book: "plagiarism is trying to pass someone else's work off as your own, copying is about reverse-engineering...." (see page 33) Kleon talks later about sharing your process, he states: "not to worry about giving your secrets away, you can share your dots without connecting them". (page 85) And, "the worst thing a day job does is take time away from ...

Walking on water when you feel like drowning~a book review

Image
Walking on water when you feel like drowning~ by Tommy Nelson and Steve Leavitt A pastor and a Christian counselor, respectively, co-author their experience with anxiety and depression from their own personal lives. They use their own personal struggles to explain just how anxiety and depression can feel, and affect a person. Using biblical teachings, therapy, and sometimes medication, the author’s let the reader know that one can recover. In this book, they show us just how this can be achieved. The book is written in easy to follow text, not at all with medical or physiological terminology. It is a comforting read, especially to anyone who may feel that they are having any type of anxiety and/or depression. Each co-author shares his story, and describes the actually body and mind feelings that they had. They explain how to identify those feelings, how they got there, what’s going on in the mind, as well as, what’s going on in the body. They offer keys to recovery, using bi...

Crunch time....once again

Image
Well, it's that time of the year again, as I stress and strive to get enough jewelry made for my last 2 shows of the fall holiday season. I always get so stressed that I don't have enough inventory! And with starting a new job, plus still looking for another job, and life's everyday in's and out's, where do I find the time to create quality, new and exciting jewelry? I just don't know. But, as I've said in the past, sometimes I work better under pressure. Here's a few photos of new jewelry I've made. They may or may not make it into my Etsy shop on-line, so if there is something that you would like to own, or get for a gift, please leave me a comment with contact info, or contact me through my Etsy shop , or message me through Facebook . You know the drill. Now if you are in Florida, and want to come to some great arts and crafts shows, these are the next 2 where I'll be. BTW: these are my favorite indoor shows that I take part in! ...
