Midori Spring Matcha green tea~ product review

This product was sent to me by the manufacturer for review and my honest opinion. The Midori Spring Matcha green tea powder is certified organic, premium, top grade ceremonial gold class green tea. It is said to have many health benefits, such as: "reducing stress and improving mental alertness, improving metabolism and helping with weight loss, boosting the immune system and helping to reduce inflammation and to cleanse the body of impurities".
The tea gets its bright green color from the actual tea leaves that are ground into a fine powder. Instructions for preparation say to use 1/2 teaspoon powder with 2 oz of water at 162-169 degrees F.
Then you are to whisk it until it gets a foamy top, and then drink immediately.
You can what a video showing preparation and education here.
What did I think? It tastes like drinking seaweed. It must be an acquired taste. Don't get me wrong, I like all kinds of teas. I found this green tea to be so strong in taste, I actually doubled the amount of water and it was still dark emerald green and rich with that taste, with or without sweetener. I want to give it more of a try, so I've tried drinking it a couple of days now. It's not tasting any better. But what I have discovered is that you can also use it in recipes. You can find many on the Midori Springs website, or Youtube. Here's one for a Starbucks Green Tea Latte Dupe.
Would I purchase it myself? No, not at the hefty price tag of about $30.00 for 30 grams. Even if it does have great health benefits. This one's hard to swallow. Really.

I adore Matcha! My mom thinks it tastes like seaweed too but I don't get that flavor. It's rich in antioxidants and has a better quality caffeine than coffee and alkalizes your body rather than acidifies it. I would mix it in one cup of water, 2 oz does sound too strong. It's also tasty with stevia, sugar, milk or vegan milk :) And of course, very good in different recipes.
