"Wherever you go there you are"~ book review

A wonderful guide to meditation for the beginner, as well as the "experienced". In this 10th anniversary edition of his book, Jon Kabat-Zinn explains in his insightful way, how mindfulness in everyday life can lead to greater peace, joy, and happiness in each and everyone who is willing to practice. Meditation does not mean burning candles and incense; chanting or even making a "great connection with a higher power". It is much more simple than that;as the author makes clear in his in depth look at slowing down, finding time to "go within", being aware of your own breath and your surroundings. His writing style reminds me of Thich Nhat Hanh , a Zen Buddhist monk. With saying that, I must clarify that this book is not recommending becoming a Buddhist, or any direct correlation with any religious sect. It does however, recommend slowing down in this life's hectic pace, going within, finding oneself, and experiencing life, in full consciousness. This is n...

New items and apologies

Image
I must first start off with an apology. I do not have many of the new items that I mentioned in a previous post. Some of them were not even photographed! Which I should have done, just to have a memory of what I made. But, being as busy as I am, I had to go to the local gallery, to take a bracelet that was requested I make, so I of course took my new works in for them to view. The gallery took almost all my new stuff! Which is good, really for me and for locals, here is Florida, because my jewelry does sell faster when seen in person. So if you want to see more of my work and are in the gulf coast of Florida, stop by Clay and Paper gallery . They have beautiful pottery, paintings, whimsical decorations and lots more eye candy! Well, here's what new in my Etsy shop, just listed today. Green meteor earrings ANKLET- sterling silver- pink- rhodochrosite gemstone Sterling silver dog pin- abstract That's it! Have a good Sunday evening!

A box of goodies

Upon completion of my intro into silversmithing, I ordered some soldering supplies so I can start creating new things with the techniques I've learned. Our instructor asked everyone if we would be back for another session, but for me, right now financially I can't. I have to make more, build up inventory and sell more. I'm doing pretty good in one of the local galleries here, and hope to get into a couple other locations soon. Plus, I do have a show coming up in March. (more on that later) So in our final class this week we learned about different hammers, annealing , and depletion plating. Depletion plating is the technique of firing and re-firing sterling silver in order to pull out the other metal (mainly copper) so that you have pure silver. Which does not need polishing. It stays bright and shiny. I made this dog pin this week. This was a fun project! He's all sterling silver, hammered, and cut with a jeweler's saw to make his toes and tail. I also used the dep...
