A Year of Subscription Boxes

Image
Last year I went on a journey trying out many subscription services that offered beauty products and samples, hair care, nail products, and food items. So I decided to write a post that briefly describes the boxes I tried, my opinions of them, why I quit them, and my overall conclusions. So many boxes, so little money! I think the first 3 subscription boxes I tried were Ipsy, Birchbox, and Julep. Ipsy : $10.00/month: seemed geered towards younger girls interested in trying out make-up. I quickly did not like the types of make-up I was getting. Birchbox (similar to Ipsy); getting you about 5 sample size products for $10.00/month, but with much better choices; which included skin care items. Julep : $24.99/month gets you 3 full size nail polish or related products. The brand is much about hype; some pretty polishes, not everyone likes them though. I got hooked on this one for a while, stocking up on different colored polishes. Glossybox :$21.00/month: seemed more upscale, offer...

My current New Beauty Test Tube

Just a quick overview of the products I received in this current (summer) beauty test tube. What I got: Supersmile's "Quickee"~ an on the go teeth whitening plus breath freshener. (full size) GrandeLASH-MD~ lash boosting mascara~ I've been using this one; I do like it. I like the combo of soft and hard bristles in the brush/wand; making for easy application; I just don't like the size of a mini mascara. Don't you wish the wand was longer, like a full sized mascara? It Cosmetics "brow power"~ I already have and use this, so it's a winner with me. Wen Cleansing conditioner~ This is a product that I've been wanting to try. And yes, I really like this product. Great moisture retention, smooths hair nicely, and leaves my hair soft, frizz free and manageable. This could become my "go-to" co-wash product. This is a good 6 oz. trial/travel size. GlamGlow Youth mud~Another great product. If you haven't tried any of the Gl...

New Beauty Test Tube Review~ Part 2

After another week of tying out the rest of the products I got in my Beauty Test Tube , here are the results. This is suppose to be a temporary fix to sagging eye lids. They claim to "erase the signs of aging" and provide an "instant eye lift" without surgery. These medical grade "strips" are to be applied to the eyes? Yeah, that's as far as I got. I can't imagine being so vain that I would buy these things, and apply them every day. And what happens on days that you don't use them. Come on, I don't want to look like Joan Rivers! I'll just age gracefully, thank you. Glo-therapeutics-gentle cream cleanser:This cleanser contains natural ingredients and antioxidants; cleanses the skin gently and even removes eye make-up. No fragrance, no burning of the eyes. This product I'm really enjoying. The size that came in the test tube was a 2 oz. pump. I use 4 pumps for my entire face and neck. Full size product is 6.7 oz. and ...

The New Beauty Test Tube~Review

So I thought it's time to try a new beauty subscription box. I opted for the "New Beauty Test Tube" . This subscription service claims to send you 5 or 6 beauty items- some of them full size, and some trial/travel sizes. Beauty Test tube ships 6 times a year, (every other month) for a price of $29.95, plus $8.95 shipping, plus sales tax. So it cost me $41.00 total. I'm not so thrilled having to pay such a high shipping fee, as most subscription boxes include shipping in their total price or offer free shipping. Sales tax too? Come on. You could look at it this way too: Divided per month it runs about $20.50. What I got: I'm only going to talk about the products I've already tried with updates to follow. First up is dr. brandt-needles no more: an "instant wrinkle relaxer". NOT. I used it on my under eye area (where I only have slight lines anyway). What the product does do is dry out my skin in that area. Plus the tube is so tiny; (like ...
