After the show- the good and the bad

Overhead view at the PAVA Cool Art show (The Coliseum) I originally was going to post a "are you ready for a rant?" But reconsidered, since the show wasn't a complete flop. I do have to admit that we had fewer people through the doors than previous years, and by Saturday's end, most jewelry artists that I talked to did not have a good day-myself included. But folks were buying large art pieces- which is confusing to me since the poor state of the economy, foreclosures, and people downsizing to smaller homes. The good news is that I had help setting up this year. And break down was not bad either. My back held out all weekend, and I'm feeling no pain. (I guess I could thank my new chiropractor for that!) But I have to give credit also to the best investment I've ever made for my business, in buying a Rock N Roller cart. This thing really saved my back and energy. ONE trip to the car. ONE trip held everything! (except my tent, which is on wheels its...

My weekend review

Post Holizaar Deux . I had a good weekend doing this show in St. Petersburg. The first day we had alot of traffic, and I was making many sales, as were the other vendors. The Studio@620 was a great location, good space, a fun and funky, relaxed atmosphere. They also served lunch and beverages that you could purchase in the rear of the building. My booth: Now the only thing missing that I could use is a banner, which I will eventually get. Didn't think I would need it for this show as we were told that we could not hang anything on the walls, as the studio did have artist's work up in various spots. I got my little table lamps at Target when they were on sale for $5.00 each! A good deal, and I'm glad I got them. Here's Coralette of The Crafty Hag on Etsy. One of the promoters of this event. And here's Shannon of Boogiehead on Etsy; also involved in pulling this show together. The second day of the show started out slow. I mean, the first 2 hours were slow. I was ge...

The day after report

I finally did my first show. I like to be pretty well organized, so Friday I had everything ready and packed, had my check list, loaded my car at night, and then locked myself out of the house. I had to drive to Benn's work to get keys to get in! Saturday morning, the day of the show started out a bit irritating. The church was well organized guiding cars in and parking, but a few volunteers were a bit Nazi- like, which led to a little bit of unneeded stress. I shared a booth with my friend Carol, who does seed bead weaving, so we had 2 totally different styles of jewelry, not at all competing with each other. That's Carol in the background and her work is to the right on the table. The weather was beautiful, but the crowds were just not there. A few people at a time would come by; I think we saw more vendors that people off the street. I did manage to sell 5 things (many to friends I had invited myself), and handed out lots of business cards letting people know that I have an ...
