Art vs. Craft: Is it an issue?

This is the topic of Etsy Bloggers "Blog carnival" for the month of May. When I first read this topic headline, I thought to myself,"Ooooh, this could be a controversial subject; I don't want to step on any one's toes!" But, I'm thinking of this as a "challenge" writing for me, and maybe it will stir up some responses and comments from others, whether you consider yourself an artist, crafts person, or not.

Being fairly new in the jewelry making business, I really feel that I have not been around long enough to make a complete and educated opinion on this topic. But I do call myself a jewelry "artist" in my bios, in my shops on-line and else where.
Because, there is alot of creativity, design elements, layouts, drawings that I do prior to putting together a piece of jewelry. Now of course the more talent you have, the cost of materials that you use, the level of difficult in your design; these are all things that I would consider an artist to possess.

I think it gets tricky to make the distinction when it comes to indoor and outdoor fairs and events. I think the obvious would be something called an "art show", and possibly "juried" as well, where one could find beautiful art work and designs that could possibly be out of many of our price ranges!
Now what I would think to be the flip side of this could be labeled, "local festival, arts and crafts show, local school fund raiser event, etc", um, I could think of more but I'll leave it at that.

I tend to think of this type of fair, as homemade goodies, locally made items, and such. Maybe more reasonable priced items. And again, you may find wonderful artists here too.
I think there's a real grey area to this subject, I mean, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", right? I'd love to hear comments on this subject.

If you'd like to read more on this topic, Etsy Bloggers team members will have the blog carnival post up after May 8th at this blog: http://www.pumpkinhaus.blogspot.com/
