Beauty boxes and scarf pins

I'm a little late posting my December's Birchbox , but here it is. Not a great selection of products for me. The only one I really liked and use is the Mirenesse iCurl mascara . This is a NICE mascara! It should be, considering the cost of $29.00! It has a unique curved brush;narrower at one end, and fits the eye fully for a great application. The mascara itself does give some curl and separates the lashes. (I'll have to wait for a sale on this one!) I ended up trading the Davines hair replumping treatment and shampoo and conditioner sample. If you know me, and you know my hair, I definitely do not need any plumping! Next up, my January Julep Maven box. A good selection of products this month from Julep . Two polishes- first "Casey" a teal, bluish-green cream, and metamorphic top coat, "Bjork". As you can see how the teal transforms when using the iridescent top coat. (Excuse my shaky hand, please) Next came a gel eye glider pencil in oliv...

bh cosmetics haul and review

Image
I caught a really good sale at bh cosmetics (something like BOGO Free), so I thought I'd try some new things! ~Smokey eyes 28 color palette~ I really like the colors in this palette. They have a range of pink to purple;light to dark blues, and light to dark grey and black. Nicely pigmented too. Here's just a few swatches. Then I got the Flawless brow trio in medium. I've been wanting to find something to replace my more expensive Anastasia brow product. The Flawless Brow consists of 2 shades of powder and one cream color. At first I thought it was too dark, even though I have dark brown hair and eye brows. Working with it I found that I like to start with the brown color cream/gel, filling in where I don't have brows then topping off and filling more with the lighter of the two powders. I might even suggest going for the lightest color if you don't want to go too dark. For something like $6.50 each, you might want to get two of them to try! ~BH Studio...

Getting movitated

Now that I have two weeks off from work, my jewelry designing work begins. I'll be working on new designs for the new year and an upcoming show in February. As you may or may not know that I took a full-time position where I work, and I have less time to create jewelry. (I've got to make a living somehow.) And the added full-time benefits do help! As of lately, I've been kinda self-absorbed, watching Youtube videos and adding to my growing cosmetic collection. Let me stop right here and say, that I always wanted to be a make-up artist. I did go to beauty school years ago, but they focused mainly on hair and nails, so I never found the right route to follow. (Self-justification here) In past years I have worked in department stores in the cosmetics department. Anyway, there are a lot less hours in the day to create jewelry, when you're working full time. And sometimes the weekends seem to fill up with other obligations as well. So I have to restructure how an...

Juelp Maven December's box

Image
This month's box included two shades of polish: Paula- a medium blue with slightly purple tones and gold micro-glitter. I call it my "Wonder Woman" nail polish. And Soleil; a frosty bronze taupe color. Plus a fabulous large "orbital eyeshadow" in the color "Equinox"; a smokey greyish purple that intensifies when applied wet. See photo left to right. To get your first box FREE just click on the Julep Maven box in the side bar! (My Wonder Woman toes!)

Wedding Wipeout~ A Rabbi Kappelmacher mystery

Image
Amateur sleuth, Rabbi Kappelmacher takes it upon himself, with Rabbi Steinmetz in tow, to investigate the murder of Florence Eisenstein, who is found dead the day after her wedding. This is the story of two elderly sisters living off their wealthy father’s estate. Their father’s will has stipulations as to if either sister marries one will lose their share of the estate. The scene is set when the entire wedding party stays over night and awakens to this mysterious death. I surprisingly enjoyed this story. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, as I had won a copy of this book on Goodreads -First Reads. The story is filled with humor and Yiddish expressions. With an interesting cast of characters, the story keeps you guessing, or thinking about “who done it”. Well written by the author. Definitely fits a “cozy mystery” genre and worth the read.
