Production time

As I look forward to my fall show schedule and commitments made to shops and galleries, I (once again) feel totally behind. Low in inventory is what I mean. So it's time to create, create, and create some more. I am finally figuring out how to create these beautiful color patinas using heat. (Torch method, as opposed to painting colors on, or chemicals or enamels.) It is somewhat difficult to control the torch to get these blue, purple, raku-like colors. new shield series more color patinas- floral series new wire work That's just a small look at what's new. If there is something you see here, thatyou would like to have, just leave me a comment with contact information, or contact me at my Etsy shop here . That's all for today!

My scale lies

Image
I've kinda given up on the whole dieting thing. I've been (gently) trying to watch what I eat, not overeat, or keep too many bad snack foods in the house. Even though I have an enormous sweet tooth. I continue to weigh myself once a week, same day, same time. One week, the scale told me, I lost about another 10 pounds. How can this be, I wondered. I mean I usually flucuate a few pounds but this much? So I try again, and the scale goes crazy, giving me all sorts of different numbers. I ask my husband if he's been weighing himself. "yes", his weight is acurate. Weird. Then the next week, I'm up again. Then, about 2 weeks ago, I had a doctor's appointment and, the truth comes out, I've gained back 10 pounds of the weight that I previously lost. It is just too hard. My experience with Weight Watcher's has proven to be very difficult. I was hungry all the time. I didn't like the foods I had to eat, and it seemed very restrictive; t...

Do people really want to work?

For close to a month now, I've been trying to find a way, or source, to move a rather large piece of furniture out my my house and into my mother's house. You think this would be an easy task. Not so. Since it is heavy and bulky, me and my husband doubted that we could lift and move it, nor did we have a big enough vehicle to move it with. Do you know how hard it is to find a "mover" who will move one piece of furniture? Let me further explain. My first thought was, "who do I know?" I do have a "friend" who has a moving company, but when I talked with them, they could not help. I got suggestions to look on Craig's List, or maybe ask a maintenance man where we live. We called many movers and found that no one would do such a small move. Every company wanted over $150.00 or $50.00 an hour with a 3 hour minimum (same thing, I know). My mother offered to pay our maintenance man, who said he would do it on a certain day, with help from the...

The Art of Non-Conformity~ a book review

Image
Tell it like it is. That's just what author Chris Guillebeau does in this book of self-exploration, doing what you love to do, and living the life you want to live. The reader will take a journey with the author as he travels around the world, on a very budget. He shows us how to live freely, break the chains of "the common work day", save money (how about that!), help others, and as the book title says, "change the world". I like how Guillebeau basically shuns a college education, stating how one can learn much in the world by actually getting out there and doing something. I personally can relate. He shares on blogging, and strategies to build your own following. And how to make money from blogging and freelance writing. Then there's travel hacking, working to help others, being useful and leaving a legacy. I really enjoyed this book, and probably will read it again. It will definately give the reader a boost of confidence to fly free, and not to...

Work, progress, and Cuban food

Today's post is an update about where I'm at with my jewelry business. One word can sum it up, busy. Which is good. Having had a great show last weekend, I must now create much more needed inventory. Two of the galleries where I have my jewelry in, want me to come in and bring more items. I am low on inventory in both. I have one appointment this week, and then again in 2 weeks to complete this. Then, I'm looking ahead to fall shows. I plan to do 1 or 2 big shows a month, which should be just enough for me. So I see lots of studio time. Still not enough work to quit my "day" job, but I'm working towards that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On another note, here is what I cooked for dinner last night. Cuban food. One of my favorites! Shredded pork, yellow rice and black beans, plantains, and cuban bread. I made mango sticky rice and banana for dessert. Well, I'm off to start my day. Have a great Monday!
