Holiday Cactus: also known as Christmas cactus, Thanksgiving and Easter cactus. These plants can live for 100 years and are sometimes passed down from generations. The plant is native to Central and South America. The epiphytes, are called cacti, but are generally found growing in the same environment as orchids. Care of: These plants are better kept indoor, in indirect sunlight, no drafts, limit watering (they do not like excessive water), and kept at 50-60% humidity. To bloom: This is now the time of the year when the plants will bloom. They bloom best if kept at 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The best time to prune or re pot is February, March, or April.

Sunday....I start my day taking a walk. What a beautiful day it is today. The trees are loosing their leaves and if it wasn't for the heat of the day, I'd swear it looks like a winter day in northern U.S. I'm fighting with the wind as I walk, oh, yeah there is a tornado watch today! Hmmmm..... I picked up a few leaves to show you; And, "Yes Virginia, the leaves do change colors in Florida". So I've got a few custom orders I'm working on. I'm grateful for that! I'm working on a Viking knit weave necklace for a guy that Benn works with. And my fingers will hate me later, the necklace he wants it to be 27 inches long! A lot of weaving wire! And I just made a pendant to match my Triple Goddess earrings, that sold last week at my open house. Normally, I would not make the same thing, but for this friend, she wanted a matching pendant, larger than the earrings, so I agreed. It turned out really nice. Good Monday morning everyone! My open house on Saturday was good. Not many people for a turnout, but good sales. So I am happy with that. I got a couple of custom orders from it as well. Today, I'll keep busy, as I have lot's to do. Various appointments, a little Christmas shopping, still looking for a part-time job, and I plan to call some local boutiques today to try and get my jewelry in their shops. I've been putting this off for quite awhile now; I don't know why, because I kept telling myself, that I don't have enough items yet, don't have my portfolio updated yet, but the real reason could be fear, discomfort, or plain laziness. I'm getting it in gear today! My Mom's in town from Oregon for the next 6 months (I think). Yes, call her a "snow bird" here. She wanted me to make her a simple turquoise necklace with beads that she bought, so I finished that yesterday. Here's a few photos from my weekend. Have a great day!

I'm preparing for my upcoming jewelry open house. I've read in many articles that say some jewelry designers will make a large percentage of their sales for the year during this kind of event. So with the holiday season upon us, I decided to do my first open house. Lot's of preparations: cleaning, tagging all my jewelry, doing a pre-set up of the table, etc. I'm decorating with Christmas in mind; hopefully to get everyone in a festive mood. I've invited around 160 people, sent 100 post cards out, and will prepare finger foods, hot and cold snacks. I'm having it on Saturday afternoon for a period of 4 hours. In All Her Glory Originally uploaded by wondrourstrangedesigns I found this wonderful photo of this magnola flower on Flickr. It's title is "In All Her Glory". I find it inspiring, beautiful, pure, warm and inviting. I see the pureness of nature and what she creates. The photo taken in black and white says to me, "out of the darkness there is light, and it is beautiful". What does it say to you? Does it inspire you to do anything? I'd love to hear comments!

What a nice party I went to last night. You wouldn't believe 36 women together in one room doing an ornament exchange, wow! Had a nice walk this morning, here's what I encountered along the way: Loch Ness Monster. Yes, this is what we can expect here in Florida! And this is about as close as I want to get! As I promised, I want to show off some of the pieces I mentioned before and I finished the southwestern necklace too.But I waited too long today to take photos outside, lost the natural light, had a shaky hand, you get the message; kind of lousy photos today. Here's a few: Now for a name, I can't decide; maybe Sedona pottery, or Fiesta? Anyone have suggestions for the name of the southwestern necklace? I need to retake photos tomorrow, I guess before I can list these in my Etsy shop. Right now I've got to go feed the hungry cats, and husband!
